Corps of Drums

1206 Squadron Corps of Drums in Lichfield City Centre as part of the Mayor's Parade

The Squadron Corps of Drums was formed in the second half of 2012 and in that time have performed in front of Air Commodores, Members of Parliament, Brigadiers, Colonels, Wing Commanders and many of the people of Lichfield. Their first engagement was at the Mayors Parade and is an accolade to the skills of the cadets and the dedication of their instructors.

Such is their success and the reaction to their performances that they are now in demand for events across the county and beyond. The most amazing statistic is that with one exception none of them had played the drums when they joined.

The Corps of Drums is a great way for cadets to be even more involved in Squadron events and also a wonderful way to get some experience of playing music in front of some very impressive audiences.

So whatever your preference: side drum, bass drum, bugle, glockenspiel there is an opportunity for you to get involved and up your musical skills. Even if you have no experience we have openings for cadets at all levels. Come along and see what it feels like to work in a team and sound like the professionals.

From Wing Commander S M Mills GCGI MinstLM RAFVR(T);

"Just a note to say how much we enjoyed your memorable and brilliantly organised 50th Anniversary Dinner. You could not have put the ACO in a better light in such splendid company.

You must be congratulated for all the splendid and varied achievements 1206 Squadron have had under your dedicated and effective leadership. Your magnificant Corps of Drums performed superbly: especially so given that they have only been formed for a year. It was a pleasure to award the best academic achievement award to Cdt cpl Alistair Daire and see all the cadets honoured."

From Commander S J J Brown Royal Navy Joint Medical Command;

"May I take this opportunity to Thank You so much for what was a really special evening; it was genuinely a fabulous event.

You and your team did a grand job; food, company, atmosphere, location all combined to create what many said on the night was one to remember.

AND, those drums of yours – they are really special; superb performance and I’m so glad we have them for Dedication Day – could they perhaps do a separate and additional performance at the evening reception?

Again thank you for a memorable evening."
